History of Hanuman Chalisa
According to Hindu history and widespread belief, Goswami Tulsidas authored the Hanuman Chalisa while imprisoned by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. It is said he continuously chanted these 40 verses for 40 days. At the end of the 40th day, an army of monkeys swarmed Akbar's court and the entire city of Fatehpur Sikri, causing massive disruption. Recognizing the spiritual power of Tulsidas, Akbar released him.
The verses beautifully express immense devotion and surrender to Lord Hanuman, recalling his selfless acts like fetching the Sanjivani herb and crossing the massive ocean to find Goddess Sita.
