History of Bajrang Baan | Origin

Shri Bajrang Baan is one of the most powerful prayers dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is believed that when devotees face extreme danger or heightened influence of negative energies, chanting the Bajrang Baan with devotion acts as an impenetrable shield. It was authored by Goswami Tulsidas, a supreme devotee of Lord Rama. In this prayer, Lord Hanuman is invoked for immediate assistance using the oath of Lord Rama himself.

Bajrang Baan is considered a very fierce and potent stotram. It should not be used for regular daily worship; it must only be chanted during major crises or when there is a threat to life. It employs thunderous, harsh words and 'Beeja Mantras' (seed syllables) to summon Lord Hanuman to come to the rescue instantly.

For ultimate protection, devotees also chant the Hanuman Chalisa in English and Sri Hanuman Ashtak in English.

Rules of Chanting & Timing

Because Bajrang Baan is extremely powerful, there are specific rules to be followed:

  • Sankalpa (Vow): It should only be chanted with a specific intent or during times of immense distress. It must not be chanted for trivial reasons.
  • Purity: Absolute physical and mental purity is required. Wearing red clothes and using a red seating mat (Aasan) is considered highly auspicious.
  • Celibacy: Complete celibacy (Brahmacharya) and a sattvic (pure vegetarian) diet must be observed until the recitation vow is completed.
  • Lamp: A lamp lit with pure ghee or jasmine oil should be kept burning while chanting.

Auspicious Timing: It is best to begin chanting on a Tuesday or Saturday. Whether read in the morning or evening, it is advisable to read it at the same place and time every day.
